The laser is a perfect simulation of a prey that is intractable, elusive and hard to catch. Just like how cats want it. This makes there predator sense tingling and exercised at the same time.

Playing with lasers satisfy their need to hunt, because they are able to pounce, to jump, to stalk, and many more – basically, their predatory advances and methods are exercised – that's why lasers work on them every time.

Although, it is also important, and interesting as well, to note that there are some cats that do not respond to the temptation of lasers. Maybe lasers are just not their thing. Always find a way to stimulate your cat’s senses. But I guess, this would be just a very small percentage of the cat population. When playing with our cats, variation is important!
